Cloud Computing

So, you want to use the laser cutters - how do you get your work from your machine onto a machine in the Digi Workshop?!

Well, there are several ways at the moment. The PCs that opperate the lasers had a real issue with attracting viruses last year, and so we had no option but to disable the USB drives on the machines.

To counter this, the machines have been networked, and your work can be uploaded / downloaded via online services, of which you have a couple of options.

SkyDrive.

As part of your Live Email, you get 25GB online server space, yes, 25GB to save your stuff!! Not bad for free!

Email.

Email yourself, and attach the Illustrator file to it. When your on the machine, open up your email and download the attachment.

Mobile Me.

Part of Apple's Mobile me is iDisk, of which you get 25GB (shared between online apps)of storage, but carries an annual fee.

Dropbox.

Getting more popular, with expandable storage limits.

As with all online services, remember to log out when your done, and dont share your passwords with anyone!
